Two Chinese companies are linked to state pressure in China. (Getty) A group of MPs has called for the closure of two of China's most widely used cameras in Britain - and connected to Chinese concentration camps. Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled cameras can detect faces, gender recognition and behavior analysis and offer advanced features such as combat detection or when someone is wearing a face mask. The two types - Hikvision and Dahua - are widely used by government agencies in the UK, with 73% of councils across the UK, 57% of high schools in England, as well as six of the ten NHS Trusts. The two companies have previously been shown to provide national definition tools on their CCTV cameras in the private district of Xinjiang, where an estimated one million Uyghurs have been arrested and tortured, tortured and forcibly executed. Learn more: Britain has more surveillance cameras than any other country except China Both companies have signed several contracts to provide security equipment in cities and concentration camps in the region. Members of Parliament and Lords who signed the document included former Conservative ministers David Davis MP, Lord Bethell, Steve Baker MP, and leading human rights leader Baroness Chakrabarti and Liberal Democrat leader Sir Ed Davey. The MP David Davis stated, "I have been fighting the disturbing rise in surveillance for a very long time. Big Recent findings of Big Brother Watch show a shocking level of UK companies relying on Chinese technology as part of their CCTV networks. View: Tips for detecting surveillance cameras hidden in your AirBnB These technologies offer advanced surveillance tools including facial recognition, gender identification, and personal tracking. The civil liberties in our nation are seriously at risk because of this. However, two businesses, Hikvision and Dahua, are owned by the Chinese government, which raises critical questions about whether they pose a threat to national security in addition to privacy issues. The story continues "The US has already shut down companies. We need to keep up with our international partners, and we must also look at preventing aggressive and oppressive technologies in these companies. " Learn more: UK monitoring regulator withdraws conference over Hikvision According to the book, the UK needs "an independent national evaluation of the scope, capabilities, ethics, and implications of modern CCTV rights." Part of the Chinese state-owned CCTV manufacturers Hikvision and Dahua are now banned from trading in the US, due to security concerns and evidence of their widespread use in so-called "re-learning" camps in Xinjiang. Big Brother Watch's Jake Hurfurt, the director of research and analysis, stated: "Chinese state CCTV has no place to observe British roadways. Hikvision and Dahua are closely related to the Xinjiang massacre and their low-cost, high-tech cameras perform unusual surveillance in the UK. The fact that 61 percent of civil society organizations in the UK buy cameras from companies located in Beijing and who promote the use of technology to address human rights issues is concerning. The widespread use of Hikvision and Dahua CCTV in the UK fosters a dystopian attitude that poses severe concerns to the security and rights of British society while unintentionally assisting China's racial persecution. We urge the prime minister to follow the US example and immediately ban -Hikvision and Dahua in operation in the UK. These disclosures show how important it is for the government to encourage an impartial assessment of the effectiveness, competence, rights, and behavior of contemporary CCTV in Britain.
