Meta, a parent company of Facebook, has announced updates to its privacy policy. The social media giant claims to be rewriting and redesigning the policy to make it easier to understand and clear how we use personal information. "Although the text looks different in many places, Meta does not collect, use or share your data in new ways based on this policy review and has not yet sold your information," wrote Meta Privacy Officer Michel Protti in a blog post. Meta said it was inspired by feedback from users and privacy experts with the aim of being more specific about data processes. The company's management of user data has been criticized in the past and in March the Irish Data Protection Commission fined Meta € 17m. This was followed by a commission of inquiry into a series of 12 notices of data breaches received. Meta says its revised policy includes additional information about how it uses and shares information with third parties. It also introduces new controls for who can see user posts and controls what types of ads people see. Users will begin receiving product notifications today and new policies will take effect in July. Updated Meta Privacy Policy includes Facebook, Instagram and Messenger and does not include WhatsApp.
